Vaccinations

Modern vaccines are highly effective and do an excellent job of protecting pets.

Having your dog or cat vaccinated and staying up to date on boosters is one of the most crucial aspects of being a loving and responsible pet parent.

Modern vaccines are highly effective and do an excellent job of safeguarding companion animals against a wide range of preventable diseases. We provide pet vaccinations in Frisco at TruVet Pet Hospital and would be thrilled to have your furry family member as a patient.

Core and Non-Core Vaccines for Pets

Pet vaccines fall into one of two categories: core or non-core (also known as lifestyle). All pets need core vaccines, but non-core vaccines are only necessary if your pet meets certain criteria. For example, a dog who spends a lot of time in wooded or grassy areas needs to be vaccinated against Lyme Disease. A city-dwelling dog who spends very little time outdoors probably doesn’t.

The core vaccines for puppies and adult dogs include Rabies, Canine Distemper Virus, Parvovirus, and Canine Adenovirus. Non-core vaccines include Bordetella, Canine Parainfluenza Virus, and Canine Influenza Virus H3N8.

For cats and kittens, core vaccines include Rabies, Feline Calicivirus, Feline Herpes Virus, and Feline Leukemia Virus. We recommend non-core Bordetella, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, and Chlamydia vaccines for cats in certain instances.

Our team will get to know you, your pet, and your lifestyle by asking several questions. Answering these questions truthfully allows us to come up with a vaccine program that provides the protection your companion needs.
