Geriatric Care

Keep your pet healthy, happy, and comfortable in their golden years.

As dogs and cats age, their bodies start slowing down.

They also become more susceptible to disease and painful conditions, like arthritis, much like we do. Preventative care and regular wellness exams are important for pets of all ages but are especially vital for seniors. At TruVet Pet Hospital, we provide geriatric pet care services in Frisco and would be honored to be entrusted with your pet’s care. With our assistance, your furry family member’s later years can be just as healthy, happy, and comfortable as their younger days.

Caring for Geriatric Pets

Pets age much faster than humans. By the time they reach around seven years of age, they are considered seniors. However, the exact time this transition occurs is not set in stone. When your pet becomes less active than they once were, it may be time to bring them in for geriatric care.

Routine wellness exams are crucial for older pets. They allow us to monitor their ongoing health and provide an opportunity for us to detect and begin treatment for a disease before it becomes more serious. We will also work with you to help you better understand your pet’s evolving needs as they grow older. This may include diet changes, behavior management, pain management, etc.

During your geriatric pet’s exam, we will recommend routine bloodwork. Running blood tests annually (or even twice per year) lets us look for changes and telltale signs of certain illnesses. We’ll check their liver and kidney values as well as their thyroid values. These tests provide us with an abundance of information, so they’re an integral part of caring for your senior pet.
